چکیده

A pervaporation process was applied to the separation of different mixtures of aromatic Csisomers using a dense homogeneous polyethylene membrane. The influence of feed temperature and downstream pressure on the flux of pure components was investigated. For mixtures, the effect of feed composition on permeation rates and separation characteristics was determined. Molar fluxes and separation factors depend on the feed composition. Coupled transport occurs and the extent of coupling depends on the difference in the permeabilities of the pure components. The mass transport of pure components through the membrane was modelled for varying downstream pressures with diffusivities linearly dependent on the concentration of all the permeants in the membrane. On the basis of this model, molar fluxes of each component in the mixture of ethylbenzene andp-xylene were calculated and compared with the experimental data. The model and experimental data show good agreement.

The Isolation of Organic Compounds using Organophilic Pervaporation Membranes

Organophilic membranes provide a method of recovering organic compounds by pervaporation, which exploits the selective transport of the organic phase. The main application is in the extraction of bio-alcohols from aqueous solution. The effect of membrane composition on performance in transporting alcohols and not water at improved rates is the focus of this review. In th...

Molecular sieving MFI-type zeolite membranes for pervaporation separation of xylene isomers.

Molecular sieving MFI-type zeolite membranes were prepared by a secondary growth method without using an organic template. Silicalite membranes with intercrystalline pores minimized or eliminated were obtained by this synthesis method which avoids the template removal step. The silicalite membrane exhibits molecular sieving characteristics with pervaporation separation factor for p-xylene to o-...

Aromatic Copolyamides with Anthrazoline Units in the Backbone: Synthesis, Characterization, Pervaporation Application

Copolyamides with anthrazoline units in the backbone (coPA) were synthesized and dense nonporous films were prepared by solvent evaporation. Glass transition temperature, density, and fractional free volume were determined for the dense nonporous films composed of polyamide and two of its copolymers containing 20 and 30 mol % anthrazoline units in the backbone. Transport properties of the polym...

Improvement of Membrane Performances to Enhance the Yield of Vanillin in a Pervaporation Reactor

In membrane reactors, the interaction of reaction and membrane separation can be exploited to achieve a "process intensification", a key objective of sustainable development. In the present work, the properties that the membrane must have to obtain this result in a pervaporation reactor are analyzed and discussed. Then, the methods to enhance these properties are investigated for the photocatal...

Rejection of organic micro-pollutants from water by a tubular, hydrophilic pervaporative membrane designed for irrigation applications.

The links between chemical properties, including those relating to molecular size, solubility, hydrophobicity and vapour pressure, and rejection of model aromatic micro-pollutants by a tubular, hydrophilic polymer pervaporation membrane designed for irrigation applications were investigated. Open air experiments were conducted at room temperature for individual solutions of fluorene, naphthalen...
